Demand-Side Management
BrightRidge Key Account staff are here to help you manage your company's energy use. For customers with electric demands of 50kW and above, demand-side management is key to reducing energy costs. Consider shifting infrequent tasks that require energy use to an off-peak time. Processes or operations that can be shifted to off-peak times can result in significant cost savings for demand charges (This will depend on when the facility sets its peak demand). Staged cycling for multiple air conditioning systems can also help curb peak demand use.
-
Electric Distribution Systems & Wiring

Power Quality
The Power Quality in a system is defined by many parameters that characterize the voltage and current on the power system at a given time. Sometimes these parameters are called “blips”.
Some of today’s equipment and machinery are so sensitive that even a small variation in power quality can cause the machine to malfunction. Therefore, it is important that steps be taken to ensure the equipment is properly protected from power quality issues.
Service Quality is defined by the reliability of the electrical service. If the customer has service quality issues, it is important for the customer to keep a log of date and time, along with conditions under which the service quality issue occurred. If the problem is with a specific piece of equipment, a call to the manufacturer may help identify the problem. A qualified electrician should be called in to check the wiring and grounding.
Surge Suppressors help protect equipment from surges. A surge is defined as a temporary increase in voltage, usually lasting less than one half second. Lightning is the most common cause of power surges. Contrary to popular belief, a surge is not caused by trees or animals or breaker operations. In addition, when one phase of a three-phase system is lost, a phase loss occurs. This is also called "single-phasing." Typically, a phase loss is caused by blown fuse, thermal overload, broken wire, worn contact or mechanical failure. A phase loss that goes undetected can rapidly result in unsafe conditions, equipment failures and costly downtime.
-
Surge Protection
Electrical surges can cause severe damage to electrical equipment such as HVAC, industrial machinery and sensitive electronics. Proper protection against surges is critical in preventing costly damages. BrightRidge can offer you detailed analysis and recommendations of specific area in your facility that are experiencing surge-related issues. Through the Comprehensive Services Program, BrightRidge and TVA will conduct monitoring and analysis, then provide recommendations for implementing a sound surge protection plan.
